About THE CPL CLASS:

The concealed pistol license class is two sections—a classroom presentation by PowerPoint and a “live fire” shooting section at the range. After completing the classroom section, we will meet at the shooting range. As a result of this class, you will have a basic understanding of firearms, understand firearm safety, and understand the legal aspects of carrying a gun in Michigan. *Before you purchase, please understand:

How to Get a Michigan Concealed Pistol License

Obtaining a Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL) involves several steps and requirements. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Meet the state requirements: To apply for a Michigan CPL, you must be at least 21 years old, a citizen of the United States or an alien lawfully admitted into the United States, and a legal resident of Michigan for at least six months immediately prior to application (1).

  2. Complete a pistol safety training course: You must have knowledge and training in the safe use and handling of a pistol by successfully completing an appropriate pistol safety training course or class.
  3. File an application: The application is filed with the county clerk in the county you reside in. You must sign it under oath at that time (2).

  4. Submit additional documents: Along with your application, you must submit a certificate showing you completed a pistol safety training course within five years of the date of your application (2).

  5. Get your fingerprints taken: Upon paying all applicable fees and filing the application, you must have classifiable fingerprints taken by the county clerk, state police, sheriff’s office, local police agency, or other entity that provides fingerprinting services (3).

Suppose you desire to carry a concealed firearm in Michigan. In that case, you must take a state-mandated concealed pistol license class before applying for your Michigan CPL (Concealed Pistol License) with your county clerk’s office.

This concealed pistol license class complies with Michigan State Code: Section 5 (J) of 1927 PA372.

 

The course is eight hours long and includes classroom instruction and a 30-round shooting qualification conducted at the range. As a result of completing this CPL class, the student will present their certificate of completion to the county clerk’s office and complete the application process to obtain their Michigan CPL.
